Original Textile Landscape – Inspired by Ireland
Each piece is a one-of-a-kind artwork — no prints, no reproductions, just 100% handmade textile art capturing the quiet beauty of the Irish Seascape.
Inspired by the irish coastline and my years spent "rockpooling" in Co.Donegal. These scenes are created using the wet felting technique, integrating natural wool, cotton, threads, silk, and silk cocoons, textural embroidery techniques that give a 3 dimensional impression to echo the seaside and the waters rich textures and tones.
The inner landscape measures 12cm x 12cm, beautifully mounted and set within a white wood and glass Irish-made box frame (26cm x 26cm) allowing the 3 dimensional "barnacles" to be viewed — ready to hang or gift.
Many people think that these works are ceramic- when they fist view them, the 3d elements are in fact the natural coccons of the silk moth- from which the blue coloured silk integrated into the wool comes. My practice is focused on using every part of a material and limited waste.
crafted by hand — unique, tactile, fresh.
3 variations available in this mini series:
Rockpools- organic, assymetrical, blues
Barnacles: linear formation of silk coccons in blues
Seaside: adding hand embroidery in to bright and contrasting orange threads, evoking te idea of small shoals of fish or golden flashes of sunshine across the wave.
